ASCO 2025: Dr. Olazagasti on Opportunities for Learning, Hope, and Connection

By Coral Olazagasti, MD, Cecilia Brown - Last Updated: June 1, 2025

Coral Olazagasti, MD, of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of Miami, joined Lung Cancers Today to share what she’s looking forward to at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.

“The main thing that I am always looking forward to is having everyone in the same place,” Dr. Olazagasti said. “Me, my colleagues, and my friends are all over the nation, so it’s very nice to have the group together to enjoy breakthroughs and science together and share the joy, not only for ourselves, but for our patients.”

Beyond the opportunities for connection, the ASCO Annual Meeting also represents a critical time to learn about emerging new data and strategies.

“I’m always excited to see what the new data is going to bring in the lung cancer space and also in the head and neck space,” Dr. Olazagasti said. “Last year was a very, very big ASCO for us with three plenary sessions. This year we didn’t make the cut, but there’s very interesting still data out there and particularly in the early-stage space, which has been very intriguing and very exciting lately.”

The ASCO Annual Meeting is not only a critical time to learn from the science and find new strategies to incorporate into daily practice, but it also represents key opportunities to bring hope to patients and inspire new ideas for research.

“I know that I’m not the only one that comes back very excited and inspired about continuing to do the research that’s so important,” Dr. Olazagasti said.
