Bringing the ‘Revolution’ in Lung Cancer Treatment to the Community Setting

By Rami Manochakian, MD, FASCO, Cecilia Brown - Last Updated: June 12, 2024

Rami Manochakian, MD, FASCO, of the Mayo Clinic, Florida, reflects on the progress made in lung cancer treatment and why it was important for him to participate as a panelist during Advancements in Oncology, which was hosted by The Oncology Brothers.

“New trials, new drugs are being approved every week,” he said. “In lung cancer in particular, it’s been a revolution. It’s an era of hope.”

This made it critical to hold the event, which gave him a chance to “summarize the data, digest the data, and immediately describe how it’s applicable and what is relevant—and what is not—to day-to-day practice,” Dr. Manochakian said.

The event, held on Saturday, June 1, featured panelists speaking about new updates in lung, breast, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers from the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting. Rahul Gosain, MD, MBA, and Rohit Gosain, MD, known collectively as The Oncology Brothers, sat down with Dr. Manochakian to discuss key updates in lung cancer.

“It’s been a pleasure and honor… to be with the wonderful Onc Brothers, because so much is happening in the world of oncology and the world of cancer care,” Dr. Manochakian said.

He shared the reasons behind the excitement and hope he felt during the annual meeting and the Advancements in Oncology event.

“We have a lot of new things happening [that are] helping our patients, [helping them] live longer, live better, and potentially also curing some patients,” he said.
