By Mara B. Antonoff, MD, Cecilia Brown - Last Updated: April 30, 2025

Mara Antonoff, MD, FACS, a thoracic surgeon at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, joined Lung Cancers Today to discuss surgery in oligometastatic lung cancer.

Dr. Antonoff, who is presenting a talk titled “Oligometastatic Disease: A Surgical Disease of Its Own?” at 7:44 am PDT on Friday, May 2, during the Thoracic Masterclass on Lung Cancer at the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons (AATS) Annual Meeting, explained why it’s critical to offer updates on operating in stage IV disease in this forum.

“I hope that we continue to give oligometastatic disease a seat at the table for all of our conferences,” she said. “We often have sessions dedicated to stages I, II, and III. I think it’s time to continue to include stage IV and the latest data in all of our events, and all of our programming, because it’s a space where we have a lot of new information and a lot of room to grow.”

The Thoracic Masterclass on Lung Cancer, moderated by Drs. Brendon Stiles and M. Blair Marshall, will take place from 7 to 9 am PDT on Friday, May 2 at the Seattle Convention Center.
